LET THE ENTERTAINING BEGIN!

Okay, so it's that time of the year where we not only plan large soiree's, but also just have friends over for small intimate gatherings. I personally love to entertain! Sadly, I don't do it nearly as much as I would like. However, I do have a place in my home where I have a small bar set up for easy, spontaneous, entertaining!

What a wonderful set up this is! Not only does it have bottles of wine and liquor, it has a silver bar tray with ice bucket; candles and a vase of botanicals. All below a wonderful piece of art!

The table cloth and lovely flowers makes this special!

This is definitely one of my favorites! The rustic chest paired with the glam mirror!

Might I say lovely and feminine! Something the girls would definitely enjoy!

Love the bamboo and glass console turn bar!

Love the simplicity of the gold gilt tray table! Hmm, this could be a terrific DIY project!

Everything is handy on this chic gold bamboo cart!

Just had to add one more girly bar! I adore how the cart is set up in front of a bar counter with glass shelving above! The printed wallpaper is so beyond!

The important thing to remember when setting up your bar is having the right essentials for the drinks you will be serving! I have taken the liberty of providing a link to help make this painless!

A WORK SPACE THAT INSPIRES...

I have two work spaces that I use in my home. I enjoy them, really I do! But there are those times when I feel less than inspired as I sit working, needing creativity to take over and lead the way! So, I am now on a quest to surround my desk with elements that will inspire my creativity when I need it to, as well as help me to maintain focus to complete tasks; all while being very pretty and very organized! Here are a few images that I found on my absolute favorite site Pinterest.com to get the juices flowing!

The simpicity of the desk is perfection. Although there are no drawers, the console keeps the clutter organized behind closed doors. What a wonderful idea to place lamps there as well. Hmm, just need to be certain there is sufficient task lighting for the desk, though. The use of color in the chair and ottoman is soft and not distracting. A very pretty, calm work space, yes?

I am already seeing a trend with me! The color white! It's just so clean; striking, yet somehow minimal. I love the contrast of the patterns in the rug and the chair cushion; not to mention the powder blue and black!

What a fantastic idea! To do a wall of draperies! Who cares if there's actually a window there! How glam is that! The wall collage is something that I could definitely utilize, as I have tons of images, fabrics, etc. that I can pin and reference in a glance. Loving the different furniture styles as well!

The colors, patterns, and lighting elements in this space really work! Black and white totally makes all other colors "pop" and have a significant role in the space!

I love the warmth that is created here with the traditional desk chair, rug, and sofa. These elements really grounds the glass sawhorse desk.

I wonder if my daughter would mind if I took her Barbie prints like these and used them in my space? Probably! I typically wouldn't like facing a wall, however, this wall I wouldn't necessarily mind! The addition of the molding and the colors used is definitely girly glam!

Can I tell you just how much I love this surface!!! But, where would I actually work? This would have to be maybe the desk that is in front of my window, while my actual work desk is to the right against the wall? Not practical, but boy do I love it!!!

This would so inspire me! I love being surrounded by lovely elements!

Well, I'm off to create that beautiful place where magic will happen!

AN EVENING OF DESIGN, FURNISHINGS, AND FRIENDS...

On Monday evening I had the pleasure of attending an event to celebrate the winning design project by two Savannah College of Art and Design students, sponsored by SCAD, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

The design project vignette featured two of the Chester collection sofa's back to back on a raised platform. The design concept was based on the car in the movie Driving Miss Daisy. The raised sofa's were inspired by how cars were showcased during that time at car shows. On the wall was a presentation that highlighted scenes in the car that focused primarily on certain elements, such as the steering wheel, dashboard, and seats.

I had such a great time catching up with old pals Tavia, Jonathan, and Tammi. We all once worked together at Pottery Barn at Lenox Square, at the time, the largest store in the country. We all credit working at Pottery Barn with helping us to realize our "true" calling! We are definitely "cheerleaders" for one another and are there to support each other in any way that we can! I love this bunch! It was a successful night Jonathan, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

One of my favorite MG+BW lamps, the Donut table lamp, sits atop the Manning three-drawer side table. An amazing piece by itself with smooth ash veneers, polished stainless steel, and white glass!

TRANSFORMING RANDOM INTO WOW!!!

We all have those random items that we have accumulated from God knows where, around our homes! Some hold sentimental value, some are lovely, and some, well, we just really don't know what to do with. What has worked for me is to create tablescapes. There is not a flat surface in my home that has not been "enhanced" by these random objects. Honestly, they are my favorite places in the rooms. Just start with a tray or a stack of books, and then add candles, trinkets, vases, jars, etc., etc. It's like doing a puzzle! You keep going until all the pieces fit nicely and look divine! No surface is off limits! This can be done on coffee tables, side tables, mantels, bedside tables, benches, ottomans, bathroom vanities...you get the picture! The addition of mirrors, lamps, candlesticks, and flowers always ups the glam quotient! Now, those random objects are not so random anymore! They are works of art that you have created and will enjoy everytime you are in that room!

MIXING PATTERNS AND COLORS

Mixing patterns and colors can be intimidating, BUT it doesn't have to be! One easy way to mix patterns is to keep the colors relatively the same. The color is now the common element, so mixing a toile with florals, or stripes now has unity. Another way to mix patterns is to decide which will be the dominant pattern and which will play the supporting role. The patterns need to vary in size. This will create interest and variety. When mixing colors, I think first of how colors coexist naturally in nature. I then think about basic color theory! Yellow and blue make green! So, it only makes sense that these three and variations of them will work in great harmony! So on and so forth! Want to live more on the daring side? Go for it! If it's uncomfortable to look at, keep changing it until it works!
