An Inspired Bedroom with Black, White, and Splashes of Red

The last couple of days have been exhausting!  I firmly believe in working smart and not hard, but there are times when you just can't avoid the latter.  I awoke yesterday morning at 1am and could not for the life of me get back to sleep!  I had a nine o'clock meeting that ran over for my 11 o'clock meeting...yeah, who was I kidding; I live in Atlanta!  Getting from one end of the city to the other within thirty minutes is not likely to happen on any day!  But I digress; the day was terrific and I slept very well last night!

Speaking of sleep...this bedroom was featured in the House Beautiful Showhouse (Adamsleigh Estate), in Greensboro during the week of High Point Market.  It was designed by Jack Fhillips of Jack Fhillips Design, Inc. of West Palm Beach, Fl.  When you first walk into this bedroom you're immediately pulled in by the color palette and then the details!

Mr. Fhillips used a contemporary mix of furnishings from Polo Ralph Lauren (the bed, the chest, and two side tables).  Among some of the other pieces were either antiques or one of a kind items from his studio.  A couple of my favorites were the pair of chaises.  I loved their profiles...I thought them to be very clean-lined and sophisticated.  The nailhead details made them even more striking.

At this Market, Eastern Accents debuted their partnership with Scalamandre which resulted in the collection of several different product categories.  One being the Le Zebre collection that features bedding and tabletop accessories in the black, white, and red color palette.  If you were at Market, you couldn't help but see this!  It was on the side of buildings, bags, magazines...literally everywhere!

The selection of artwork throughout the space was eye catching and added so much interest.  There were pieces by Andy Warhol, Louise Nevelson, Robert Rauschenberg, and vintage restrikes of Picasso etchings.  A real treat for anyone who appreciates art!

I didn't notice this at the time I was actually in the space, but I really like how the walls and ceiling are trimmed in black!  It totally adds another dimension to the space and works so nicely with the established theme.

Not many pieces were without the zebra detail, as it is featured here on this bowl of apples.  Isn't this chaise just perfect?  It is Mr. Fhillips own design from his furniture collection with EJ Victor Company.

Also one of my favorite pieces was the chest by Polo Ralph Lauren.  It truly is absolutely stunning with the silver hardware details.  The red tray on top, along with the silver framed vintage photos made for a lovely and striking vignette.  There was so much more to see in this incredible home!  I'll see you back here again for more inspired rooms...

Oh my gosh!  Since I didn't do my Happy May posting yesterday, please forgive me!  You guys know how I feel about the beginning of each new month!  I LOVE them!  It's a brand new month to try to do better and get it right!  My goal for the month of May is to truly LET GO AND LET GOD!  For some reason, I just allowed the month of April to run me!  Oooh but I can assure you, the month of May will have no such luck!  I am in control of me and the direction I will go.  I will yield only to the spirit of the Lord!

Now you really can...

Monday's Office

How was your weekend?  Did you do anything special, out of the ordinary?  Was it AMAZING?  Well, mine was pretty nice.  I got to spend time with my family and laugh a lot.  I turned my phone off yesterday and it felt so good to disconnect!  I remember when I would do this at least one weekend every couple of months and I would feel so refreshed come Monday morning.  I need to get back to that!  If it's happening Friday after 6pm through Monday morning before 8am, it can wait!

I love the light that this office is getting!  Wow!  I was so a tree, plant, or shrub in a prior life!  Nothing energizes me more than the sun!  I'm totally crushing on these chairs and how they complement the draperies!  I wish I could see the chairs in the foreground.  I bet this space is beautiful.  I mean, just look at all of the other details in the room!  Those wide plank floors would have me as soon as I hit the threshold!  Speaking of threshold, have you guys checked out Target's new home interior's line?  They have some pretty great stuff!  I hope to use some in a project that I'm currently working on.  Check it out!

I'm feeling a wee bit sluggish this morning, but what better way to get past it than to get past it!  Keep it moving and...

Make it AMAZING!

These Things I Do and Know To Be True...

My hope for you...you who are reading this...today...right now...is that you think upon these things.  Meditate on them.  Think of them often.  Do them always.

If, for whatever reason, you are not in a place where you can whole-heartedly think these things...believe these things...know these things to be true; just for one week, imagine you do, pretend you do.  After this one week, if it isn't easier, continue to imagine and pretend until one day you don't even think about it because now you do these things and know them to be true.

My Adventures in the CR Laine Showroom at High Point Market!

I could rule the world from my iPhone!  We all could, right?  Instead, I thought I would take pictures of furnishings and elements that struck my fancy in the CR Laine showroom.  By the time I was done, my phone was saying "cannot take photo", literally!  This had to be one of my favorite showroom visits!  There was color at every turn, and I was turning like a merry-go-round trying to see it all!  Oh my gosh, the most incredibly vibrant colors and patterned fabrics that I've seen, all in one place, in a very long time!  CR Laine is definitely my showroom crush for High Point Market 2013!

I so loved the ming red mirror on the green wall!  And then all of the blue...WOW!  I was told by Mary, from New Jersey, that the Marcoux sofa is one of CR Laine's best!  It totally was so comfortable and looked classic and polished as the grounding piece of the setting.

This setting was probably my favorite!  One...because the sofa is named "Ramsey"; my dad's name is Ramsey, and two... the sumptuous teal blue velvet!  Oh my gosh, sick!  The Windsor chairs in that fabulous floral fabric made my heart race!  I was never much on florals, but that chair, in that fabric was freakin' amazeballs!  I say this as my eyes are rolling around to the back of my head!  I absolutely love Lance and David with Parker Kennedy Living, and their red vintage ming chests had me at hello!  I was contemplating a personal purchase, but alas they were sold!

I hate that this picture ended up being blurry because the details were just so striking!  The upholstery on the chair, the detail along the bottom of the sofa...crazy madness!  Truly!

Never been much for plaid, but this sofa, with it's clean lines and modern silhouette quickly changed my mind!  How cool is that little accent table, not to mention those black walls with those eye-popping yellow cubes!  Yes!  I am all in, my friend!

Okay, this chair is so on fire!  I hate that I didn't get the name!  Sorry!!!  They also showed it in this way chic and cool ink blue leather with nailhead detail that had me like...really?  Really!  I truly was like my kids at Toys R Us...running around from one scene to the next and just floored by each!

This vintage chest from Parker Kennedy Living had me reminiscing about my early years spent visiting family and remembering the furniture they had!  I love this chest and the salmon color!

Another piece from Parker Kennedy Living that I eyeballed early on the first day of market, only to miss out on it by the end of the day!  I came back for the party and guess what...SOLD!  The base of the lamp is just so pretty with a nautical kind of feel, and that oversized shade was perfection topping it off!

Anyhoo, I hope you enjoyed all that I spied while visiting the CR Laine showroom at Market.  CR Laine has been crafting furnishings for over fifty years in North Carolina, and they became the first upholstery manufacturer to achieve AHFA's Sustainable by Design; quite an accomplishment!  Oh, the food was totally delish at their party and the showroom reps made you feel welcomed and special...like a great big Southern hug!

Make it AMAZING!

Time For A Little Outdoor Living

While at High Point Market, I ventured into Greensboro to tour the first ever showhouse for the Market, sponsored by the Junior League of Greensboro.  It was held at the grand and historic Adamsleigh Estate.  The Adamsleigh Estate was designed and built for High Point textile magnate John Hampton Adams in 1930.  To read more about this estate and watch a short video produced by the Junior League, click here.

The architecture of the home was exquisite!  There were many rooms where the walls and ceilings were just beyond words, and some that I've not ever had the privilege of seeing before!  It was definitely a treat to walk through and not only appreciate the original architecture and design, but also to see what all of the very talented designers were inspired to create to enhance the houses' already stately beauty.

The Sun Room and Outdoor Terrace that I am featuring today was designed by Bradshaw Orrell Interiors and Randy McManus Designs, both of Greensboro.  It is dreadful that you cannot have the same experience I had while in their rooms!  It was so tranquil and lovely; it really made you breathe slower, take deeper breaths, and silence the noise from within...

I love how they used the same fabrics outdoors as they did indoors; connecting the two spaces.  No detail was spared.  The walls and ceiling were in perfect balance and harmony with the furnishings, and other design elements.  The botanicals made you feel as though you were in a tropical oasis.  The water feature with the Koi on the wall, seemingly diving into the pond was imaginative and witty.  The color combination of minty blue and coral added a cool and refreshing quality.  Trellis walls being the standout design feature was incredibly done and set the mood for this outdoor paradise.  I was delighted to see all of the lighting used; from the large scale, but delicate chandelier, to the brass floor lamps, column table lamps, and lovely mirrored sconces; it was a treat to see it all come together so beautifully.  This was very much a room to linger and take in all that it had to offer.

What I'm Reading Today

While in the airport yesterday I picked up the latest copy of Domino Magazine, special edition Small Spaces.  I thought it would make for an interesting read while on the plane, but a quick nap got my attention instead.  So, today after I've gotten caught up with a few projects, I plan to sit and have a leisurely browse through one of my favorite magazines.  I was so glad to know that I wasn't the only one out there that sorely missed Domino when they ceased publication a few years ago, and was thrilled to have them publish a special edition (now their third), for we who find inspiration in their pages.

This issue is on newsstands until June!  Plenty of time for you to pick up your copy!

Monday's Office from the Century showroom at High Point Market

I have had such a blast at Market! It has been a busy weekend with all of the social events (PARTY), the educational events (much to be learned), visiting the showrooms, discovering new finds, meeting new people, catching up with old friend from across the country, and just being in the midst of an electric, high energy, exciting event otherwise known as High Point Market! If you've not been before, you have really been missing out!

I'm still at Market, but I wanted to share at least one picture with you, and it's appropriate for today's Monday's Office series. While roaming the amazing rooms at Century, I came across this office setting and immediately thought about my guys "With A Man In Mind" and my "All About Men" Pinterest board.

Later this week I will do a Market re-cap, but for now...

Make it AMAZING!
