GIVE ME A GREAT CLOSET, BABY!

Ahhh, to have a wonderful closet!  My dream closet is not just a closet, it's a place where I can sit and let my mind wander.  You know, just drift away for a while.  I can enjoy how beautifully organized my clothing, shoes, and accessories are.  See every dress, blouse, pant, skirt, scarf, necklace, handbag, shoe I've purchased over the years and so lovingly taken care of as if they were apart of my family.  It would be a magical place!  I imagine it to be luxurious with all of the bells and whistles my mind can conceive.  Not one detail missing.  Honestly, this would be my favorite place in my home.  I know for a fact, that it would be my six year old daughters favorite place as well!  How do you imagine your closet to be?

Herringbone painted pattern adds a bit of a 3D effect!

Black and white horizontal lines lengthens the hallway!

Ribbon diamond pattern is whimsical allowing for photos, notes, and momentos to be displayed in an interesting way!

We all have books hanging out around our homes.  They take up space in closets, corners, under sofas, beds, chairs, you name it!  If you don’t use them to create cool interesting compositions, you’re really missing out on a major opportunity!  Look at your bookshelves right now!  Please tell me you are not looking at a ton of books just stacked on the shelves!  Please tell me you will now use your imagination to create a very interesting home for them and the other random objects you have around your home!  Come on!  Right now, get up from your computer and make some magic happen!  It doesn’t have to be perfection!  It just has to be imaginative!  Go!  Go!  Go!  You’ll be so pleased with yourself once you’re done!  I promise!

COLOR, PATTERN, TEXTURE, SHAPE...

Ah, the ELEMENTS of DESIGN!  What can I say about them?  Well, the success of any room depends on them.  Now how you use them, that's up to you!  Be creative when using these elements.  You'll know when you have hit the right note, because there will be harmony and balance; both of which are principles of design.  Okay, okay, I'll save that for another time!  The following images are of interiors that have used these elements to convey a mood or advance a theme.  They may or may not be your taste, but the whole idea is to find that inspiration that will lead you down a path of exploration and adventure!
Oh!!!  Something that I do when pulling a room together is to grab my digital camera and take pics of the room.  This takes me out of the space and gives me a better perspective.  I can then immediately see where I need to edit, add, rearrange, or just completely start over!

I can't finish this posting without mentioning the other ELEMENTS of DESIGN that are just as CRUCIAL to the success of any room.  They are space, shape/form, mass, and line.  Every designer uses these elements of design!  I feel better now!  I can carry on knowing that you have been informed!  Much success to you!

Thanks for visiting!

THINK PINK! NO LONGER JUST FOR LITTLE GIRLS ROOMS!

It’s funny how our tastes, likes and dislikes change and evolve over time.  I was never a pink girl!  I don’t know, growing up I was the consummate tomboy and just thought pink was for girls!  LOL!  Now, so many years later, I am definitely a “girl”!  Not a girly girl, but a woman girl!  I am cracking myself up with this!  Anyhoo, I am loving pink everything, especially in interiors!  Yes, it is feminine, but when done well it can be very elegant and sophisticated.  There are so many different shades of this beautiful hue, which makes it easier to find one that suits most palates.

REFRESHING!!!  The use of pink in interiors!  I hope I’ve given you enough examples of how to introduce this pretty hue into your spaces!

Fall is in the air!

Today, my kids wanted to decorate for their upcoming "Pumpkin Party"!  You are seeing the beginnings of what they have done, with a little help from me!  We usually decorate every surface and doorway downstairs.  Next, we will spray paint and glitter pine cones and acorns!  This weekend we will be taking another trip to the pumpkin patch to get more pumpkins and gourds!  I love that they love decorating and actually have a flair for it!
