More Pictures from the 2013 Cathedral Inspiration House

Here is a little more of what you can expect to see at the Cathedral Inspiration House!

Brooke Merrill (Brooke Merrill Home), Foyer

This handpainted mural is so incredibly amazing!  You have to see it first hand to really be able to appreciate the artistry and intricate details that went into creating this!

Karen Ferguson (Harrison Design Associates), Gentleman's Bathroom

Karen did a fantastic job in this bathroom!  If you could have experienced the before, you would be wowed at the transformation!

Summer Loftin (Summer Loftin Antiques), Library

Yes my friends that is a real giraffe and spider monkey on the globe!  There are so many interesting taxidermy elements in Summer's library!  It is layered to perfection and truly a room to behold!

Dayka Robinson (Dayka Robinson Designs), Apartment Entry and Stairs

Dayka pushed the envelope and made a wonderfully modern statement in such a small area!  Her design just proves that you don't need a lot of room to make an impact.

Bryan A. Kirkland (Bryan Alan Kirkland Designs), Apartment Living and Dining Rooms

Bryans design is filled with Art Deco and whimsical pieces.  The lacquered finishes and bright bold color and patterns marry to create a modern and comfortable way to live.

Lance Jackson (Parker Kennedy Living), Living Room

The deep pink, navy, and white throughout is vibrant and stunning!

Jennifer Reiner/Robert White (Reiner/White Design Studio, Boardroom

No detail was overlooked in this room!  Upon entering it grabs you and pulls you in to wander and see all of the interesting and wonderful ways to feature collections of all kinds in your own home!

Warner McConaughey (HammerSmith), Kitchen

Okay, this kitchen is a small galley style that demonstrates again that a lot of space is not needed to have great style and impact!

Sherry Hart/Lori May (Sherry Hart Designs/Lori May Interiors, LLC), Stone Room

I could totally curl up in this lovely space with a nice glass of wine and get lost in a great novel!

William McLure (Bill Ingram Architects), Hearth Room

With a nod to the masculine persuasion, this room is beautifully executed and comfortable for the fairer sex as well!

Sorry I'm so late, but...

Don't you hate it when people say that!  Well, I am sorry!  For the last couple of weeks I've been in the depth of show house oblivion.  Of course, I've thought about you and have missed you considerably!  I'm back now and I vow that going forward, I will let you all know when I will have an extended absence.  As my very good friend Deirdre says, I am overwhelmed by opportunity and I am trying to find that balance that I am going to need to get me through this new year!  I do hope you hang in there with me and come along for the ride!  I think this year is going to be one filled with many adventures.  Next on the list of adventures is my trip to Paris in March!  More on that in a later posting!

My bestie, Tomeko and I at the Cathedral Antiques Inspiration House premiere party.  Bless his heart, he came immediately after leaving work.  He stayed for quite a bit while I was greeting people, talking about my space, and posing for pictures like these.  All without so much as a grimace!  I love him, I do!  He and I have been friends for many years.  A friendship that began while we both worked at Louis Vuitton.  He has since moved on to the almighty Hermes; yes my friends, you read right,
H-E-R-M-E-S!  I can't wait until he decides to focus and publish his first novel!  It is going to be an amazing read, I promise!

Jacqueline Glover and I at the premiere party.  Jackie is the pro sales manager at Floor & Decor, Southlake in Morrow, Georgia.  She is the driving force behind not only securing flooring for my space in the Inspiration House, but also the counseling center for the Cathedral of St. Philip.  She and her team at Floor & Decor are one of the corporate sponsors of this years Inspiration House!  Their very generous donation has made all the difference in the appearance of the center and everyone is so excited and couldn't be happier!

Renae Walker and I at the premiere party.  Renae is totally fabulous, and a fellow designer (to be)!  She is completing her formal training at the Art Institute.  I can't wait to see what she has in store for the design world!  Renae is truly a great person, and is as tall as I am!  That is pretty rare around these parts!  I'm always so much taller than everyone in pictures (in a room), so this is so refreshing!  I had such a ball with her at the party at the house and afterwards, when she joined me, my great friend Deirdre, and a few of my designers friends for a mini celebration of our own.  I am so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life!  It was so nice to be supported and celebrated by such a dynamic and successful group of women.

Railroad ties with real bird nests and bird nest paintings hung above by local artist Janet Gannon.  Janet is a very talented artist who does beautiful oil on canvas paintings.  This composition is located in a hallway that has extremely low ceilings, so being creative and simplistic was a must.  It really complements the elements that can be found just beyond those doors.

This vignette is in the stair hallway that sits atop an oak coffee table/bench that is finished in a liming wax.

The drinks cabinet is by Grange and can be found at Steve McKenzie's.  The painting is an original, painted by Steve McKenzie himself!  Steve and Jill are the most incredible couple.  Their sense of humor is infectious and they are a riot to be around!  Their shop is filled with wonderful furnishings, accessories, works or art, and fabrics that are also designed by Steve!  Can I tell you how much I adore these two!

One of my absolute favorite vignettes and I cannot wait to have it professionally photographed!  I can only show you snippets for now because Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine will publish pictures from the Inspiration House later this year and we want you all to gasp at the loveliness of each and every room!

Oh my gosh, I got a lot of comments about the books being turned this way!  My response to that is I didn't want people seeing some of the smut that I read!  Ha! Nah, it's not too bad...hmmm, just bad enough!

I love this view of the outdoor entry from inside!

This bird cage is a faux bois concrete!  Psych!  Everyone thinks it's wood!

Okay, so that's what I've been up to for the last couple of weeks...pulling my space at the Inspiration House together!  My space had to undergo construction because it's the lower level hall where the Cathedral Counseling Center is located, and I needed to install temporary walls, baseboards, replace the flooring, build a cabinet (in an elevator opening), etc., etc., etc.  By the time the other designers began work in their rooms, I had already been there weeks earlier!  But boy let me tell you what a difference it has made!  Sooo, am I forgiven?

Monday's Office: Designer Matthew Patrick Smyth

I'm always intrigued to see how others work.  Well, their work environments.  I'm not all that interested in how they literally work!  Just thought I needed to clarify that statement!  I think a person's office, whether it is at home or in an office building; how they organize and decorate says a lot about them and how they approach their work.  I love the details of designer Matthew Patrick Smyth's apartment study.  The Hermes wallpaper is so fresh and uplifting.  How about that desk?  Wow, I love the desk top and the finish with the studs!  The custom bookcase with floating shelves is a wonderful way to feature those collected treasures that inspire and motivate!

Mary McDonald + Schumacher = Gorgeous

Mary McDonald's new collaboration with Schumacher is nothing short of beautiful!  I love the colors, patterns, tapes, and appliques.  Amazing!

Mary is one of four interior designers, along with Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Kathryn Ireland, and Jeffrey Alan Marks, featured on Bravo's Million Dollar Decorator's.  The second season of the designers' antics (and projects) just wrapped on Tuesday, January 7th.  If you have not had the opportunity to see the show during it's regular season, I do suggest you watch it on On Demand, if you have AT&T Uverse.  If not, then you maybe able to watch episodes on Bravo.com.  Trust me, it's worth it!

Mary is known for using bold graphic patterns and rich colors to create sophisticated and glamorous interiors for her clients.  Whenever I see a graphic patterned floor, I immediately wonder if it is one of her designs!  She does an incredible job of marrying patterns and colors that you may not necessarily have considered.

Her collection with Schumacher offers fabrics in velvets, linen prints, and matelasse's.  You will also find beautifully embroidered tapes and appliques that have been selected to be the perfect complement to the textiles.  Fabrics come in striking colors of orange, jade green, ruby red, jet black, blush pink, and bittersweet brown.  Orange and jade green are my favorite!  I am totally in love with the featured fabric in the pictures shown, Chinois Palais in Tangerine!

As Albert Hadley once said "Details are not the details, they make the design"!  And so, we see this to be true with the introduction of this most elegant collection!  Brava, Mary, brava!

With a Man in Mind

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SCARF BOYS!

My absolute favorite men's accessory for winter is a scarf!  I, personally, love wearing scarves in winter.  I think they add so much to any outfit and I can't think of one person who looks bad in a scarf!  They look particularly nice on men, I guess because the ones who actually wear them have a very self assured, self confident demeanor that makes them very attractive.

I love to see the guys wearing scarves with sweaters and jeans, trousers and blazers, and of course coats with hats and gloves.  If you're not accustomed to wearing a scarf, it could be a little bit weird, I suppose.  Not everyone likes having something tied so closely around their necks!  However, if you would just give them a try, if you haven't already, I'm sure you'll grow to love wearing them as much as many of us girls love seeing you in them!

Ah, the tartan plaid scarf tied loosely around the neck with a denim jacket or shirt!   How classic and easy is this look for anyone to pull off.

Okay, I really like this!  It reminds me of the wool scarves we sold a Louis Vuitton.  They were big, cozy, and looked so handsome.  I am totally smitten by the different shades of gray in soft warm fabrics like cashmere or a wool/cashmere blend!  Yummy!

Although this may be a little preppy for some, the herringbone scarf with fringed ends are another classic that works well in any wardrobe.  I happen to like the preppy look, however if it's not your thing, it's okay!  This scarf worn with your outfit of choice will still be amazeballs!

I was just telling a friend of mine, as long as my neck is covered and depending on the severity of the temperature, I don't necessarily need a coat or a jacket.  I love the casual bravado of this look!  I can tell he and I share the same philosophy when it comes to wearing a scarf.  They make you brave enough to face the cold while still looking very composed and well put together!  Right on!

Obviously a great look that can be pulled off by every man.  Dressing in layers is always the way to go.  As the temperature increases you just keep pulling off a layer until guess what?  You're down to that lovely flannel shirt and that cozy warm fairisle scarf!

Come on!  Who wouldn't want to do a double take of this gentleman?  He's decided to just let the scarf hang around his neck, peeking from under his blazer!  A very nice look for a very confident and fashionable man!

Same goes for this gentleman.  I love the topcoat and the sunglasses!  He's also not afraid of color!  A definite "do" in my book!

Steve McQueen was a guys guy and he looks so at ease with his navy wool scarf tied about his neck!

This little fellow is already well on his way to confidently wearing scarves!  That's right, start them young mommy's and train them well!

Metallics in the Kitchen!

Have you noticed the growing trend of using metallics in the kitchen?  I'm actually growing quite fond of this latest move to create a more modern and sophisticated environment in a room that I think is usually one of the last spaces to see such bold statements.  Whether it's done with a paint finish, wallpaper, furnishings, or metal cabinetry like steel, copper, or silver; what an incredible way to heat up the kitchen!

The hammered silver cabinetry adds a warm glow with beautiful marble countertops and floors.  The lighting fixture of brass and opaline assists in marrying this very modern kitchen with traditional elements.

I love this wallpaper!  The entire concept is right on point!  The granite countertop is a wonderful fusion of color that complements so well the wallpaper underneath and the backsplash!  How about those chairs!  Wow!  All of this set against the beautiful dark hardwood floors...

Okay!  What an amazing centerpiece this is!  A brass island?  Kelly Wearstler is truly a force to be reckoned with and her clients are definitely people who are very trusting and adventurous!

So, what do you think?  Is this a trend you can get on board with or is it something that you will wait out, knowing that it will be a thing of the past in time?

Take a Deep Breath and Keep It Moving!

For the last three days I've been experiencing technical difficulties with composing postings on Blogger; specifically uploading images. This poses a pretty big challenge for me since my postings are image driven. I'm creating this posting on my iPad and although it's relatively simple, the images are in a file on my laptop. Yes, I can get them to my iPad, but...anyhoo. Please just hang in there with me!  I've just added a new goal to my 2013 list:  become more savvy with Blogger and my iPad so that I can eliminate hiccups like these!

These quotes are totally words of encouragement and inspiration for me today! I will not allow any of today's challenges and obstacles force me to think anything but the best thoughts so that I can maintain the best attitude! I hope these quote will encourage you to keep it moving as well!

Inspirations for Change that leads to Greatness!

The older I get, the more I recognize the need for change in my life.  I will admit that there was a time when I use to think that if this person would just change how they behave or if that person would just change their attitude, I would be happier.  Hmmm, yeah well, as you would imagine that didn't work out all that great for me!  I finally woke up and realized, the only person that is going to make me happy is me.  The person that needed a change in behavior and attitude was me!  Wow!  Sound so simple doesn't it?  Changing oneself is never simple.  You would know this if you've ever tried!

Have you ever been around people that are so flashy; whether it's their dress, their behavior, or their conversation, where you're like, whoa?  They feel the need to show you, you need to know who they are as they proceed to tell you why; not realizing that the more they speak, the more they're telling you how little they actually know!

I remember one of my first trips to ADAC was with a colleague of mine that was introducing me to a few of the showroom managers and sales reps.  He commented to me that he had observed my behavior, during these meetings, as very quiet and oh my gosh, I forget what else he said; but anyhoo, his point was he knew me to be this very outgoing, confident person and my behavior just took him by surprise.  I told him I didn't feel like that was the time to let those people know all that much about me (other than the basic stuff).  He couldn't really understand why.  I was there to learn as much as I could about them and how they could help me in my pursuit of my new career.  There was still time yet for them to get to know me and all that I knew.

This quote really resonates with me because in 2012, I began to get out more and attend more events and functions in the design community where little to no one knew me or had probably even heard of me.  Looking back on a few particular moments, it's really quite humorous!  Why?  Because certain people didn't know, that I knew all that I know, until the need had arisen for them to know, all that they have come to know, I know!  Read it again, it's a bit of a brain teaser.  It makes me laugh at the thought of them shaking their heads and thinking WOW, who knew!  Obviously, I did!

Whether you're a man or a woman, elegance is that certain "something" that sets you apart from everyone else.  I don't think this quote is suggesting that elegance doesn't get noticed, because it absolutely does!  It's just not always what's on the outside.  I've met plenty of elegant women and a few men, but the ones that were memorable were the ones that were gracious in their demeanor and humble in their approach.  Do you know anyone like this?

I'm still working on this one!  I am a work in progress and I hope to get there soon!  What a wonderful quote to remember.  Just because you're right, doesn't mean you should say it.  Just because it's true, doesn't mean you should say it.  Just because you think it's the right thing to say, doesn't mean you should say it!  That's why one of my prayers is that God set a watch about my mouth, and let me know who to talk to, when to talk to them, and what to say!

It is the most incredible feeling to have someone tell you how much of an inspiration you are!  The best part about this is you do it without ever knowing it!  It is a total "Wow" moment when you realize you are doing something right, and it's really not all about you!

I've learned to listen to my spirit (intuition); to let it be my guide.  Sometimes it doesn't speak when I need it to, but that's when I know that I am not to take another step until it gets back with me!  Guess what, it never fails me and it's never a moment too soon!

New Year's Resolutions or Goals?

Have you written your goals for 2013 yet?  I've started.  I always write the goal, I then write how I'm going to accomplish it, and I set a timeline.  I do this because it is the only way that I can reasonably track my progress.  It also allows me to tweak and modify if I need to.  I don't do resolutions just because the idea of them seems to be so frivolous.  You know, if I do it, great; if not, oh well!  Goals are more solid, but I guess it's all in how you look at it...

I am living my story!  When I think about my life like this, it forces me to make better choices.  It makes me be more positive about situations and outcomes.  I not only hope for the best, I take an active role in making the best happen!  I tend to look at my life from the perspective of an eighty-year old Rhonda!  When I look back at these times, I want to be able to say I took every chance and every opportunity that I wanted or had an interest in.  I want to love that I made the most of every experience and I made every experience memorable.  I want to find comfort in knowing that I reveled in the moments spent with my family, whether they were wonderful or not!  I want to look at my life like it is an amazing story made possible because of the attitude and outlook I had while living it!  I want to look back on my life and think "Wow, I did all of that"!

Oh my gosh!  No truer words have ever been spoken!  Think about it... How many times has someone asked "Where do you want to go"?  Well, until you figure it out, you're just stuck where you are!  Sometimes this is not the easiest thing to figure out, and I guess that's okay for a minute.  One thing that works for me is to get out and do things.  The kind of things that interest me that I don't ordinarily do.  Doing this usually jumpstarts me and gets me to thinking about things in ways I'd never thought of before.  It's incredible how just changing your surroundings can give you the attitude adjustment you need in order to see things more clearly!  To be able to affectively change your path and change your destination by making one decision... Where would I rather be?

Totally!  The thing about tests are once you pass it, you're moving on to the next level.  If you find yourself in the same situation as always, there's something there that you're just not getting; that you're just not grasping and learning from.  You can't go from one level to the next without first mastering various aspects of the one you're currently on.  It's no different from being in school and taking a math exam!  Here's the thing, you can't become jaded, bitter, or down because of problems, challenges, or obstacles faced!  You have to deal with them head!  Figure out why they happened so that you can eliminate the possiblility of them happening again.  And you know what, if they happen again, oh well, it's just another opportunity to get it right!

What else is there to say about this quote?  No one is going to be affected more by your decisions than you!  It's like I said in an earlier posting about waiting on people to do something or say something that may change your direction or change your life.  Don't do it!  Be the one to inspire people and to incite change!  Be the one that people think of as a "go-getter", as the one that has a dream or goal and charts their course in the direction thereof!  Be that person that makes it happen for yourself.  Not that you don't or won't need the assistance of others, but don't let that turn into needing them to do everything for you!  Once the door is opened, walk through it.  Don't wait to be carried!

Fear keeps us from many things that could quite possibly be the best things for us.  Mistakes are apart of living and apart of living life to it's fullest!  Fear of making mistakes will keep you where you are.  There are very few opportunities in life that come along where mistakes won't be made.  Okay, so what, I made a mistake.  If it affects others, whether directly or indirectly, apologize and try to make things right; and then move on!  NEXT!!!

This was my philosophy for 2012 and it is my way of thinking for 2013!  By doing this, many great things have happened for me and many doors have opened!  This alone will take you to places and have you experiencing things you never thought possible!  If there is nothing else that you walk away from this posting with, I'd really like for you to take this quote to heart!  You have everything you need to do whatever it is you desire to do!  Do the research, count the costs, find your resources, and make it happen!  Trust me, it will happen!

There is success, love, opportunity, friendship, prosperity, a life worth living on the other side of fear!  It's just waiting on you to make up your mind to move, to take a step, to do something!

Make it AMAZING!
