Fashion has a huge influence on interiors! I've always found it odd, though, that some of the most fashionable people struggle with pulling together their interiors with the same panache as their wardrobe. Honestly, I think one of the first places to start when considering an interior project is your closet or if you're like me and can't ever seem to find anything in your closet, a fashion magazine. Truly, there is a lot to be said for doing this! You'll find a style that you're attracted to, as well as color, pattern, and texture. Don't concern yourself with being all over the place and having a mish mash of styles and elements that have no relationship, because you're going to be drawn to things that fall within the same style. Also, don't over-think it! Afterall, it's not rocket science! Have fun and let it flow! Hmmm, not flowing? Step away and come back! You'll have a fresher perspective!
Christian Dior pre-Fall 2012 Collection
I'm crazy about this look! It is classic, timeless, and very feminine! Structured jackets and blazers are among my favorites and this one with the boat neckline and three quarter length sleeve is smart and beautiful. Cinched at the waist with a belt accentuates the waist, and the neckline frames the face and shows off the neck. The skirt has is a lovely cut that gathers nicely at the waist and falls perfectly above the knee; which is very important because if it falls right at the knee it can be rather unflattering if you have large knees or calves. The black turtleneck is so amazing with the really long sleeves! I love long sleeves like this because I'm 5'10" with long arms and rarely do I find sleeves long enough!
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not much for pink walls! But this room has the feel of what I get from the look above. Yes, it is very feminine, due in large part to the wall color; which I would, without a doubt, change! The artwork above is wonderful! It works well with this gorgeous velvet sofa with the floral burnout pattern! How incredible is this! I would remove the existing pillows and do others that are maybe a little more "comfortable". I think possibly a glass or color ceramic lamp with a simple, structured lampshade would be a great complement to the sofa and artwork. The whole idea is to look for a picture or room that inspires you. Whether it's one element or several, take the things that resonate with you and build upon them. It's not about reproducing the exact same room as much as it is reinterpreting it to suit your taste and lifestyle!
Have the most lovely day!
