Keep It Simple!

With this New Year underway and in full swing, I am taking stock of every detail, not just in my career and relationships, but in my home as well.  This can be quite overwhelming!  My motto for today is...

While searching for ideas and inspiration for my own home, I've visited the pages of this lovely book written so nicely by Deborah Needleman.  It has the most simple hints, tips, and ideas to create a wonderfully comfortable, and beautiful space for you, your family, and guests to enjoy!  A read that is definitely worth picking up and making apart of your design library!

This is a row of magazines that lines one of the walls in my family room.  It is in dire need of my attention!  I have not really enjoyed my family room in the past because it is literally where EVERYTHING takes place (as it should be!), and so it becomes the dumping ground for all things unsightly.  So, one of my goals in the next few weeks is to make it a place where I would like to spend time.  Oh, and yes, I had to place Gillian's phone there!  It was a request made by little missy herself and honestly, why not?

This is one of my inspiration photos for that wall.  I'm thinking, since that space is at the landing of my stairs, it will be a great place to feature family photos, etc., etc.  Of course, I will place my own special twist on it AND NO, the wall color won't be gray!  However, since it is in need of repainting, it won't be the "builders white" that you currently see!

This is my kitchen table where even more action takes place!  We eat most of our meals here, do homework, play games, do arts and crafts, and also where my friend Jackie and I sit to chat and catch up.  It definitely serves all of these purposes, but I now want pretty!  No surprise, huh?  I'm replacing the lighting fixture, the chairs, and adding a rug, for sure!  The table is a keeper!  I got this beauty for just $50!  I just can't decide on a finish...

I have an idea of what I want to do in this space, however it is going to be all about the lighting!  You see, this table is placed where it is the first thing that you see upon entering my home through the front door, as well as what you see when the draperies are open in the back.  The lighting fixture has to be the "WOW", but still complement the table, chairs, and family room!  I'm getting very excited about the possibilites of this space!

My family room is where the stairs are located and it is two stories.  The walls seem to go on forever and I've just not been motivated to make it "nice".  As you can see, I've tested some potential colors and then primed over them thinking I would try a couple others.  I'm pretty settled on a color right now.  I'm just in need of inspiration for how to make it aesthetically pleasing!

This is a possibility for the stair wall.  I like the idea of the picture ledges.  I could break them up and stagger them as needed and create a design within a design...

I love the idea of introducing moulding to the bare walls.  I may use different elements inside the mouldings or nothing at all!  Oh, the possibilities!  Remember, the wall inside of the stairs is two stories, so there is a lot of wall to cover!

I hope you all are doing very well!  I can't remember who coined this saying, but
"A goal without a plan is just a wish"!

Have a fantastic day, my friends!
Rhonda
