My Decorating Madness: It's Time To Let Go and Move On

What a terrific weekend I had!  I totally and completely unplugged and I am so much better today for doing so!  Before I turned off all electronic devices on Friday evening, I let my parents know they would have to call on the land line if they needed me.  I think they knew I was done and needed a serious break!  I've not ever cut myself off in this way before!

Anyhoo, I had so many moments of clarity over the weekend!  Both in business and my personal life.  I got a lot done around my house.  My poor living and dining rooms had seen much better days! I got them cleaned, baseboards and all, organized, and looking soooo much better!  Here is the dilemma...My guy has this large nicely framed photo of a Spanish Moor, that he's had for years.  In our first home, the Moor was in the master bedroom.  At the time, I didn't care!  I was modeling and traveling, so it just didn't register on my radar!  When we moved into our current home, we put it on the foyer wall.  I didn't really want him there, but I figured that was as good a place as any!

Since getting the downstairs painted, the Moor has not had a home, like many of the photos that were taken down.  I do know he will not be back in the foyer!  I've been trying to convince my guy that he no longer has a place in our home and that he's only lasted this long because we didn't have a direction or design plan.  So, me wanting to make a place for the only piece that means something to him, placed him over the fireplace to live with for a week or so.

This is the fireplace wall I mentioned in last week's posting My Decorating Madness: Making Progress.  My attention has now turned to this wall.  I like the brick surround and hearth, but I'm not completely sure if I'll leave it or tile it with something different.  Decisions, decisions!  I've taken down the draperies that were there and will more than likely replace them with a patterned linen.  The sunlight coming through these windows is so intense and will fade the draperies, so I must choose wisely!

Back to the Spanich Moor. I, honestly, would love nothing more than to keep him here because it would mean so much to Pete!  I'm always the first to say, in decorating, use what you love because it will all come together and work in the end.  Well, I need to add balance to that statement!  When trying to combine the styles and personalities of more than one, especially in a room they all share, the above statement isn't completely without fine print.  If the space has taken an obvious direction, try if you will, to introduce a curve ball, but if it doesn't come together, striking the right balance and interupts the flow; you must let go and move on!

Make it AMAZING!
