Every month I do this posting for the men that may frequent my blog and spend a little time with me! I will usually pull together inspirations that I've pinned on my Pinterest board, All About Men, but this month I decided to something a wee bit different and feature the work of Houston designer, Cathy Echols. This project was absolutely done with a man in mind, as it was designed for a gentleman client!
Oh My Goodness! Cathy masterfully mixes textures, finishes, and decorative elements to create an amazing living room to relax, entertain, and enjoy! A pair of sphinx! A honey wood finished chest! A supple leather chaise! Do I need to continue? Talk about a feast for the eyes and conversation for hours regaling the tales behind each piece!
Orchids have always been my flower of choice for a masculine environment! Just look at how wonderfully the soft plushness of the sofa upholstery contrasts with the nubby texture of the natural fiber rug, juxtaposed with the smoked glass of the coffee table! I'm literally shaking my head with pure elation of how incredibly handsome this came together!
Again, enough textures to really give you a visual treat for imagining what it's like to actually experience the room firsthand! How about that lushious throw on the gorgeous chair? Can you just feel it wrapped around you on a chilly evening? I am totally captivated by the layering of elements! Are you kidding me! Where is the smelling salt, I am going to need to be revived!
Wow! A rough hewn table is a great addition to any room, but then to layer it with a large chunk of quartz, maybe, that came straight from the quarry! Details my friend, details!
Cantilever chairs with leather seats and seat backs sitting confidently at a very clean, minimal glass table with bamboo legs! Really? I am chuckling with delight! Did you see the flooring and how it is continued onto the baseboard? The lighting is most unique and complements the dining area perfectly!
This is a master suite! The scale of the artwork and every element in this room is right on point! This is a perfect example of how scale and proportion will make a powerful impact when done right! This is a very sexy bedroom! Very cozy and luxurious at the same time! I love how the white ceiling reflects the natural lighting from the windows and brightens an otherwise dark room! I can imagine the glow of the tracklighting along the wall is spectacular in the evenings!
Okay, I will say that I never would have thought to use a canopy with soft draperies in a masculine bedroom! Or even more, the number of pillows on the bed, since most men see them as being unnecessary, frivolous, a waste! But oh my gosh is this not just the most fantastic bedroom for a man! Cathy must be an amazing salesperson who is able to romanticize and paint a visual image that is unforgettable! Honestly, my favorite part is presenting my design plan and showing how it is the most special thing ever!
Details aren't just the details, they are the design! Charles Eames knew then what we know today! Even if you donn't care for how these elements are combined, you have to appreciate this!
How beautiful is this pop of magenta orchids, alongside a framed image and book in the same hue! It's those little things that go such a long way in creating a very artistic vignette!
The silver and bone boxes sharing space with a threesome of sculls...yeah, not too much of scull person myself, but I'm so glad I have one!
I love the simplistic randomness of the nice silver tray next to the bar sink, holding all of the gin and bourbon a guy could need!
Make it AMAZING!
Rhonda
