Cerulean, Azure, Cobalt, Cyan...

Growing up, my favorite color was blue.  Pain and simply, blue!  I, back then, didn't consider the many shades of blue, I just knew that that was my favorite color!  As I got a bit older, my favorite color became magenta!  I wore magenta lipstick and my favorite shirt was a magenta polo broadcloth button down!  I wonder whatever happened to that shirt?  Then I moved into a purple phase, where I have lingered even until now!  It all started with a purple leather strap Guess watch that I bought myself from Dillards while I was a senior in high school!  Isn't it funny how we remember very specific things!  I love color!  Don't want to live without it!  I'm not certain if there is a color I don't like!  Now that I've been using color for quite a while I know that when it comes to paint, I can add black, gray, or white to any color to get it just right!  But then there are other ways to change the perception of color!  Colors appear different when placed with other colors and also in different lighting situations.  Basic color theory, my friends!

I know that this may sound simplistic, but if there are colors that you absolutely adore, don't be afraid to introduce them into your interiors.  You may have to find the right saturation for them to live harmoniously together, but it can be done!  Think first about creating a neutral canvas; wall finish, floors, and ceilings, especially if the colors you select are strong, bold, and eye catching!  You really want your eyes to have a place to rest so consider doing these in a more peaceful color, while allowing your furnishings, accessories, and other details to be the sources of the bold color.  Here's the thing, there is nothing that you can do that can't be corrected!  Sure it may take a little time, and of course, a little cash, but the end result, when you get it just so, will be well worth it!  I know of what I speak, because my house is my laboratory for every whim and idea that I have!  Some have been great and some not so great!  I just keep plugging away and you should do the same!
